GFS BurgeeYALogoGreenwich Flying Squadron is a sailing Club affiliated with Australian Sailing (AS). This affiliation means GFS is part of the broader sailing community bringing with its many benefits, tangible as well as more abstract. AS holds a Personal Injury Insurance Policy providing blanket insurance to all current registered Club Members while they are participating in Sailing events organised by the Club. More details on this insurance cover can be found here.

All GFS on water events are conducted in accordance with the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024, rules which are developed and administered by AS. Rule 46 relates to those in charge and crews’ membership of an affiliated sailing Club. AS prescribes that the person in charge shall be a member of a Club affiliated to AS and have an AS number. From 1st January 2022, all persons on board a boat while racing shall be members of a Club affiliated to AS and have an AS number, or hold a valid Sail Pass. Skipper(s) should therefore ensure their crew members are either:

  • financial members of a sailing club (i.e. of GFS or any other AS affiliated club); or,
  • become financial ‘Crew’ members of the GFS; or,
  • have a valid SailPass for each day of racing (up to x3 in any season).

Crew can join GFS through completing details via the link to revSPORT found below on this page, along with advice on the joining process.
