Sailing Program
The Club races yachts up to 40 feet as well as Sabots and Lasers. The club races on the weekends and on Wednesday during daylight saving runs twilight races. The Club’s extensive sailing program is available for next season GFS Sailing Prog. There are photos and videos of the boats and racing at the club here.
Club Base
The Club is based at Bay Street Wharf, Greenwich. You can see a picture of the club with a raft-up of yachts following a twilight race. Folks are enjoying the BBQ and a quite little drink which is a feature of the club on summer Wednesday nights.
History
The Greenwich Flying Squadron was founded in 1924 and has a long and distinguished history. The Club’s history has been captured by Rosalie Lucas in her book Greenwich Flying Squadron: The First 75 Years (Maritime Heritage Press, 1999 ISBN 1876059036, 9781876059033). The Lane Cove and Greenwich Libraries each have a copy of the book.
Club Objectives
- To promote and organise sailboat racing on and around the environs of Sydney Harbour and coastal cruising events.
- To promote and facilitate sail training, coaching and racing for youth sailors.
- To maintain and improve the clubhouse and club equipment to ensure the ongoing viability of sailboat training, racing and cruising.
- To ensure any funds raised by the club, in its capacity as a non-profit organisation, are applied only to the above objects.
Committee Meetings
Club committee meetings are conducted at the Clubhouse on the second Tuesday each month, commencing at 7.30pm. All members and prospective members are welcome to attend.
